The Warmest Welcome In All Yorkshire
Sand Hutton is a quiet village near Stamford Bridge, the site of the famous battle of 1066, and itself was part of the large Walker estate of the 1800s. Situated two doors down from the ruins of St. Leonard’s Church, and St. Mary’s which currently stands, the house has had many lives, including a post office, shop, pub, stables and of course a blacksmith’s forge. Finally combined into one, we have renovated it and went on to build our two holiday cottages: The Garden Shed and Next Door @ The Old Forge. However, our higgledy-piggledy set of cottages and outbuildings, as everyone who has experienced it will attest, retains a certain timeless and magical ambience.
When we moved in in 2014, the house had not been renovated since the 1970s. There was dangerous mould and asbestos everywhere, and the walls were painted alternate shades of yellow and green! To see where we have come to with our home fills us with pride and joy, and we are so excited to finally be able to open our holiday lets to the public. Since relocating to the two-acre plot we now call home, our family has also begun to find more and more ways of incorporating the nature around us into how we live our daily lives. This started with ‘The Barbaras’, our affectionately named, and badly behaved, hens, whose eggs we enjoy regularly, and last year extended to growing our own vegetables. In fact, all our products come from within a 15-mile radius, and we hold a strong ethos of supporting the local community and small businesses.
As well as welcoming guests to our one and two-bedroom holiday lets, we host events throughout the year, from being used as a film set, to children’s clothing photoshoots, to supper club events. Please get in contact if you would like to use our space.
